How Gonstead care is applied
The Gonstead technique is specific, thorough and precise. Using meticulous analysis, we explore the interaction between nerves, muscles and bones using various assessment tools for a detailed diagnosis – it’s not just about cracking the spine.
After identifying the issue and confirming chiropractic care is appropriate, we tailor a plan focused on achieving results with as few adjustments as needed.
Taking your history
We take a thorough history to understand your symptoms, injuries, lifestyle and reason for your visit. Listening to your point of view is a vital part of our consultation.
Visual assessment
As experts in posture and movement, we watch you move as we look for subtle signs of issues or imbalances in your musculoskeletal system.
Instrumental analysis
We use a nervoscope along the spine to detect temperature shifts, which may point to areas of nerve irritation.
Static palpation
We gently assess along your spine, feeling for signs like tenderness or swelling that could point to the true source of discomfort.
Motion palpation
While moving your spine gently, we assess for any irregular motion between segments to help identify where support may be needed.
X-ray imaging
We take an on-site X-ray for an instant image of your spine to check joint and disc integrity and vertebral alignment. This further informs our thorough analysis and helps us to provide meticulous and precise chiropractic care.
Focused chiropractic realignment
We’ll only recommend chiropractic care if our full assessment shows it’s suitable, and we’ll take the time to explain everything clearly.
Once you’re comfortable with the proposed treatment, we’ll carry out your adjustment using the Gonstead approach—focused, accurate movements designed to support alignment and ease discomfort.
Gonstead care is personalised to suit your needs, with the goal of helping you feel your best—physically and emotionally.
How the Gonstead approach developed
Developed in the 1940s by Dr Clarence Gonstead, the Gonstead chiropractic system was born from a desire to better understand and address spinal misalignments. Drawing on biomechanics and disc-nerve relationships, Dr Gonstead crafted a thorough system for assessing the entire spine through detailed analysis.
By the 1950s, Dr Gonstead’s method had gained significant traction, leading his team to educate fellow chiropractors and establish the Gonstead Clinic of Chiropractic in Wisconsin in 1964.
The Gonstead system is now taught at leading universities and used by chiropractors worldwide, widely regarded as a benchmark in chiropractic practice.
Chiropractic Symphony practitioners are proud members of the Gonstead Chiropractic Society, offering a methodical and compassionate approach to your care.
